8.3.26 unmoving objects
It’s the quiet moments where things start to undo. The monologue screams and my fears become the frowning mount rushmore monoliths telling me to stay down where I am. Where things are small, digestible, safe. I hate those old dead eyes staring at me, watching my every move. If I get caught up in what I am doing I forget their faces amongst the mountains and summer breeze. But they are always there, disapproving and nervous. One day I’ll get some dynamite and blow that whole thing up, or perhaps plant some kudzu at the bottom, engulfing them in green darkness. For now I scowl at their presence and remind myself not to listen to unmoving objects.
7.29.26 the summer Trilogy
Earlier this year I got rid of all streaming services. So now when I want to watch a movie or TV show I need to find it in physical form, from a library, friend or thrift store. This has made movie watching much more of an adventure. This also has made some movies almost impossible to find, like the second movie in my made up summer trilogy - The Wickerman (2006) with Nicolas Cage. A pretty iconic-ly terrible movie.
I started the trilogy off in June watching The Wickerman (1973), this is the original movie. I loved every second of it, especially the naked witchy 70s lady and the paper mache animal masks. Then I learned about the Nick Cage version and about Midsommar (2019) which was inspired by those first two. I hadn't seen any of these- thus the trilogy was born.
Tracking down the 2006 Wickerman turned almost impossible until I was able to get it on an inter-library loan through the university library. After blowing the dust off the barely watched disk I watched The Wickerman (2006) in mid-July. The "BEES IN MY EYES!" scene was just as hilariously bad as the hype led it me to think it would be. And overall it was very similar to the original just a lot worse, with a lot less naked ladies :/
Then I was on to the final movie, Midsommar (2019) got this from the university library as well. I know I know I can't beleive I hadn't seen this yet, the hype made me so scared to watch it for so long. But honestly ending with this one made it so fun. I really enjoyed all the traditional folklore elements and Florence was amazing. I feel like this was a very karmicly balanced movie, which is something I always like.
Out of all three in the Summer Trilogy I liked the first and the last best, but you gott hang on and watch number 2 for the comedic break! My ratings are below.
